Fabrication
Curava slabs should be cut on the same bridge saws used to cut marble, granite, and other engineered stone. Bridge saw blades for crystallized glass and glass are recommended for an optimum cut.
Only Curava brand blades or Curava approved blades should be used to cut Curava products. It is important to keep the blade at relatively high RPM, and to always wet cut. The speed of the cutting should be moderate. It is important to perform the cut through the entire 1 ¼” thickness in 2 passes, the second and final pass going backwards with the bottom of the blade no more than ¼” beneath the bottom of the slab. This will keep glass chipping on the bottom surface to a minimum.
The bridge saw should be equipped with a flat, clean cutting table. Make sure that the wood on the table is evenly flat and in workable conditions. Please be sure to wash off the surface of the table clean before loading a new slab to be cut.
Please discard of all the waste according to applicable regulations. Do not dump the waste/remnants into regular waste management trash receptors.
Manual cuts can be performed with hand held grinders as you would with marble or granite. The grinder should have a blade cover to protect the fabricator from flying debris and chips. At all times, the fabricator should use personal protection equipment as required by OSHA (protective glasses, gloves, an OSHA approved respirator mask, etc.)
Dry or wet continuous rim blades for marble can be used when performing manual cuts (sink cutouts, indentations, etc.). If water is used, please take all appropriate safety precautions to protect all electrical chords nearby from water contact. Make sure all chords are in suitable shape and that there are no cuts or wires exposed.
To drill faucet holes, regular marble diamond core drill bits can be used. It is important to put moderate pressure when drilling. Aggressive drilling may cause unwanted chipping of the glass.
Undermount sinks can be installed the same way as they are with marble and granite, using clips.
It is important to reinforce the Curava material between the cutout and the edges using fiberglass reinforcing rods. Do not use athin coat of Stonetechny steel rods, as they may rust and discolor the material.
Cutouts and edge shaping can also be performed using CNC machines with diamond router bits for marble.
Curava countertops can be finished with any edge type, provided that the top and bottom edges are eased or at least slightly beveled. The edges can be honed or polished by using wet 4” Velcro pads with a pneumatic polisher. You can start with a grit as high as 200 and work your way up to the desired grit number. To achieve full polish, the recommended final grit is 3000. Cyclone, Diarex, or Alpha are recommended.
To repair glass chips, fast curing marble mastic can be used and mixed with colorants to achieve the right color. Curava also provides powder admixtures that can be mixed with water and applied to the edges or surface for patching. Please contact your local distributor or Curava directly if you would like the repair kit.
Once the countertop is dry and ready to be transported to the installation location, apply a thin coat of Stonetech Bulletproof or Stain Proof by DryTreat. Repeat sealing process 2 more times. Please refer to the instructions on the Stonetech bottle.
Should there be anything you deem wrong with the slab, please contact your local distributor or Curava directly right away. Please do not cut or alter the slab in any way, as that will void the warranty.
